Got one at Home Depot on sale. I've it for about 3 months now and so far I'm very happy with the performance. I use Costco HE soap (I've read this isn't the best soap) and most of the time I wash stuff on "NORMAL", warm water and double rinse (soap allergy.) If you wash big items (rugs, blankets, etc...) you MUST set the cycle to "BULKY". That way it will fill the tub up all the way like an old style washer.I've read complaints from people that it doesn't get your clothes clean and my experience is that it gets them CLEANER than any washer I've used (that's three counting this one.) Even my girlfriend noticed and was impressed with it's cleaning ability. Compared to my old washer it's very quiet and it gets the clothes quite dry in the spin. My dryer time has decreased from an hour to 35 minutes. It also holds a lot of clothes compared to my old washer. It's not too tall and that makes it easier to load and unload compared to the old GE (70's, 80's model??) I had.I did get the extended warranty because my research showed that modern washers have a 7% - 10% failure rate within the first five years. That's not too good, but you don't have much choice if you need a new washer. Anyway, mine hasn't broken down. I do about two loads a week. My understanding is that you must be very careful not to allow any small items to get in the wash because they'll get sucked into the pump and wreck it, so make sure to check all the clothes pockets before you wash! The manual has a note about this too. One other small note: The spin is really powerful and will really scrunch up the clothes. If you machine dry it's not a problem, but if you want to line dry them you might have problems getting them straightened out. You can reduce the spin power with the proper setting.

I'm not happy with this one nor Maytag's service.I live alone and don't need to do many loads of wash so this Maytag seemed like a good cost/service compromise. Bought it new in January; after 5 months of very light service it's control system started going brainless at the end of the wash cycle. Would shut down completely, never would go to rinse or spin.Called Maytag service - took 2 hours; person on the other end said she couldn't schedule a warranty repair without the serial number, which I didn't have handy. Called back 2 days later and got an airhead who said she needed neither model number nor serial number to schedule a warranty service. First day they could get a serviceman out was about a week away. Made appointment.Fortunately the service company called a day ahead and I learned they were scheduled to come fix a 6 year old, out of service Whirlpool!! Got that straighten out. Told the guy the problem was most likely in the control system and the serviceman should bring a new control module and any known troublesome sensors with him.OF COURSE, next day he arrives with no parts. Diagnoses problem as the control module. Will have to order it and it should arrive in a week or less. Schedule for him to come out a week later.Next week -- after 2+ weeks without a functioning washer -- service man arrives, installs parts. Runs diagnostic program on a tablet computer but does not actually try running the washing machine. Pronounces the problem fixed. Leaves.30 minutes later I try washing one of the many loads of clothes I've accumulated in 2 weeks. No workee. Exactly the same problem as before. Call service company, try to get them to send the guy back. Sorry, no can do. Next date we can have a serviceman come is 5 days from now.I'll give them one more chance to fix it and then I start demanding my money back.

This might be a great washer for someone who does not own pets, but if you have pets as I do (two cats), run from this thing like the plague! It has no clue how to remove pet hair from clothing. Had I been allowed, I'd have given it zero stars.My old washer had a strainer on top of the agitator that caught hair and lint as it was carried by the recycling water during the wash and rinse cycles. This thing has no way to remove pet hair and lint except to strain it through the clothing as it drains water at the end of each cycle. The result is that whatever pet fur and lint had been removed just settles back onto the clothing; the best it can do is redistribute the pet fur and lint. It's discouraging to have to "lint roll" freshly washed clothes so that they are presentable for wearing. It's even more discouraging to know that the 25-plus year old "antique" that I threw away was far, far more effective in removing hair from clothing than this modern marvel.I even e-mailed Maytag with my complaints. They had no answers, just suggestions that I use the bulky setting to bring more water into the tub (and thus offset the water savings I was told I would get) and use more detergent--both of which I'd tried in vain before contacting the company.
